
Weixian radish, also named as Weifang radish, is a famous radish variety in Shandong Province. The Weixian radish is named because it was originally produced in Weixian county (former name of Weifang) of Shandong with a cultivation history of more than 300 years. With dark green skin, emerald green flesh, and the taste of fragrant, peppery, crispy, sweet, juicy and delicious, Weixian radish has a strong and unique local flavor and distinctive regional characteristics. It is a famous and special local variety that is well-known at home and abroad and is deeply loved by people. In 2006, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China approved the implementation of geographical indication product protection for Weixian radish.
Weixian radish was noted in the "Records of Weixian" during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, and its main producing areas of are plains on both sides of the Bailang River and Yu River, mostly are places around Weixian Town (now Weicheng District), along Bailang River, Yu River and Wei River, especially the area near Beigong. Large area planting is seen in Weicheng District, Hanting District, Changle County, Qingzhou City, Linqu County, Anqiu City, etc.
