Guo Weiqu (February 15, 1908 – December 19, 1971), childhood name Xin, better known by courtesy name, was a famous traditional Chinese painter, art theorist and educator from downtown Weicheng District. From 1951, he studies theories in Central Academy of Fine Arts, the Institute of National Arts and Memorial Hall of Xu Beihong. In 1962, he was appointed director of Department of Flower and Bird Painting in Traditional Chinese Style, School of Traditional Chinese Painting in Central Academy of Fine Arts. He was bold and practical to get rid of the stale and bring forth the fresh. His works include Chronology of Painters in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasty, A Short History of Chinese Woodcuts, Sixteen Methods of Freehand Brushwork of Flower and Bird Painting; besides, his Guo Weiqu Album and Guo Weiqu Painting Selections are also published; in addition. More than 80 articles discussing the art of Chinese paintings are published on the newspapers and magazines. He left precise treasure for later generations.
