Mo Yan (February 17, 1955 -- ), real name Guan Moye, born in Gaomi Shandong Province, is a famous modern Chinese writer. With an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature from The Open University of Hong Kong, he is the guest professor in Qingdao University of Science and Technology and vice president of China Writers Association. His career started with his rural works in 1980s, containing complicated feelings of “nostalgia” and “hatred”, which is considered as a writer of “root-seeking literature”. Influenced by hallucinatory realism, his novels create a unique subjective world. In August 2011, Mo Yan’s novel The Frog won The 8th Mao Dun Literature Award. On October 11, 2012, he was awarded the Noble Prize in Literature.
