On the evening of October 18, the opening ceremony of the 2nd World Indoor Kite Championships and Kite Wonder Night took place at the Weifang University's gymnasium. Lim Juay Jin, Vice President of the Malaysia-China Friendship Association and former Malaysian Ambassador to China and Brazil, attended the event. Liu Yun, Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, declared the opening. Su Like, Deputy Director of the Supervisory and Judicial Committee of the Provincial People's Congress and President of the International Kite Federation; Hans-Peter Bome, Vice President of the International Kite Federation; officials from the Social Sports Guidance Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the Provincial Sports Bureau; and city leaders Zhao Xuchun and Di Bo also participated.

As one of the key events of the 2025 Weifang Kite Carnival, the 2nd World Indoor Kite Championships features athletes from China, Argentina, Bulgaria, Colombia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malaysia, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United States, and other countries and regions. The tournament includes four competitive events: indoor single-line kite ballet, dual-line kite ballet, four-line kite ballet, and eagle kite competition, as well as six performance events: indoor individual freestyle eagle kite, group freestyle eagle kite, high-elevation eagle kite, single-line kite, dual-line kite, and four-line kite performances.

At the opening ceremony, participants from around the world took the stage in turn, presenting kite works in a variety of styles. During the subsequent Kite Wonder Night, performances included eagle kite flying, four-line and single-line kite flying, and dragon-head centipede kites, creatively combined with dance, opera, and fashion shows. The event provided the audience with a cultural feast where art and sports intertwined and tradition and modernity engaged in dialogue. Kite enthusiasts from all over the world exchanged friendship through their skills and demonstrated the unique charm of kite culture with the miracle of flying without wind.
