Salt-drying Skill (Salt Production from Brine)

Font size:   Large   Nedium   Small

The traditional salt production skills of Shouguang varied in different historical periods. During the Shang and Zhou dynasties, people collected brine in pottery jars and boil it on fire to get salt after water evaporation, known as "boiling seawater for salt". According to relevant literature records and archaeological discoveries, Shouguang's salt production skill originated in the Shang and Zhou dynasties over 4,000 years ago (testified by the cluster of salt industry sites at Shuangwangcheng reservoir). In 2014, it was included in the fourth batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List.
