The Mencius · Chapter of Li Lou records, "Shun was born in Zhufeng, relocated to Fuxia and died in Mingtiao. He was a native of Dongyi." The County Annals of Emperor Qianlong Reign · Records of Historical Relics also indicated, "Shun was the top sage of the county, and Zhufeng was the top historical relics." According to legend, when Shun was born in Zhufeng, four rainbows appeared in the sky and hence he was named Shun Hua. He had a blind father and a cruel stepmother. His wicked half brother attempted to kill him three times. He asked Shun to repair the granary, and the stepmother removed the ladder and set fire; he asked Shun to dig a well, and the stepmother threw stones into the well; he gave a cup of poisonous wine to Shun. Fortunately Shun escaped and survived. But he remained obedient to his parent and kind to his siblings. Shun's virtues were extensively praised. Emperor Yao was moved and personally visited Shun. Then he tested Shun three times, and was convinced by his unparallel virtues and capabilities. Finally he abdicated the crown to Shun. In 2011, the legends were included in the third batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List.
