Gongsun Hong (200 B.C.-121 B.C.) courtesy name Ji, was the prime minister in the reign of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty. He was born in Zi Chuan State (now Jitai, Shouguang City). In his early years he was a jailer and dismissed for mistakes. He started studying Gongyang’s Spring and Autumn Annals at the age of 40. In 140 B.C. Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty ascended the throne and appointed the 60-year-old Gongsun Hong as a Doctor for his integrity. In 130 B.C., Emperor Wu assessed his advices as the best. In 126 B.C., he was first appointed as the Royal Procurator, then Prime Minister 2 years later, and ennobled as Marquis of Pingjing.
