Legends of Liu Yi

The legends of Liu Yi have been widely circulated in the regions around the Liu Yi Mountain in Zhuli Town, Hanting District, Weifang. Since the Tang Dynasty, the legends have been passed down for over 1,000 years, forming rich and profound heritage of history and folk culture. There are dozens of legends about Liu Yi in the locality, such as the stories of "Humiliation and Self-inspiration of Liu Yi", "Unexpected Help from a Noble Person", "Tests of Wealth and Beauty", "Happy Encounter on the Journey to an Imperial Exam", and "The Princess' Messenger", and folk legends of Liu Yi's epiphanic presence such as "Praying for Rain in the Heavenly Pond", "Dredging of the Sea Eye", "Folk Worship", "Lawsuit on Poverty and Retribution", "Serial Storytelling Shows", "Staying up Late on New Year's Eve", "Festival of Birthday", and "Ferry on the Yellow River". It was included in the third batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List in 2011.
