Thriving in the early Ming Dynasty and flourishing during the periods of Emperor Qianlong and Emperor Jiaqing of the Qing Dynasty, Weifang's Yangjiabu woodcut New Year paintings has a history of more than 600 years. Through centuries of development, the Yangjiabu woodcut New Year paintings present distinctive features: first, the paintings have unconstrained imaginations and styles to express themes by means of summarization, romanticism, symbolism and metaphor; second, the compositions are complete, saturated and balanced; third, they have theatrical, concise, rough but plain designs, with streamlined, distinct and highly acceptable images. In 2006, it was included in the first batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection List.
