Gaomi Fried Buns, a traditional folk delicacy, date back to the Qing Dynasty and have enjoyed widespread popularity in both urban and rural areas. Especially in the 1930s, the fried buns of Hujiangzhuang, Gaomi became famous in every street and alley. These buns are known for being large and fluffy, with a soft exterior, a generous, flavorful filling, and a delightful taste. They are carefully coated and cooked to perfection, achieving a unique texture that is crispy on the outside and tender inside. Each bite is crunchy and bursting with a rich, savory aroma. Gaomi Fried Buns are made with carefully selected ingredients, including fresh pork, leeks, cabbage, and high-quality refined flour. Additional ingredients like dried shrimp, wood ear mushrooms, and various seasonings are used to enhance the flavor. This delicacy is a staple food for the people of Gaomi. The Nobel winning novelist Mo Yan has a particular fondness for these buns and once described them in a humorous poem: "Leek baked buns with pork, white flour pancakes with green onions, add a dish of soybean paste, and it's impossible not to be happy." In 2007, Gaomi Fried Buns were listed as a representative project of municipal intangible cultural heritage and were also recognized by the People's Government of Shandong Province as a "Shandong Famous Dish".
